General Vantas Gets Hitched, or, The Limits Of Bilateral Diplomacy: A Black Powder Romance

at AO3 here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/360877/chapters/585197
also on tumblr, but I lost the link

It has John <3 Karkat, which isn't my ship, but the John here is a magnificent manipulative monarch who worked in counterintelligence in the war. It's like Vetinari from Discworld, but with broader resources. And with friends. And gay.

Yes, he is basically Vetinari, but with friends and is a king. And xenophiliac in the paraphiliac way, or is that just karkatsexual, not to mention in love, but he doesn't let it get in the way of his job and, instead, he saw it as another tool to manipulate and used it to full effort to fuel his own end. How magnificent is that? In a more clichéd story he would struggle to only keep one, but here he can play with both in perfect ease. Like a good king would. Why don't we have kings like him.

spoiler )

It's probably fanon now that every single not-heterosexual in Homestuck or derived work must be an impossible badass.

And it's not like this fic made him a Gary Stu. He still have his mortal side, like wanting a hug. He still looks a bit too perfect, but he was like that in the canon too, so it's not a big deal. And we all know that without his conscious effort of acting like a dumb innocent child, John is actually pretty dangerous and enough of a bastard. He is, after all, the Trickster God equivalent. I'm talking about both the canon and this fic here.

Wow, I just realised that this is also one of the few fics that remember to portray John as the Trickster god/king in this case rather than the God of Impossibly Transparent Armoured Closet.

Anyway, good fic, best John.

What is this universe? Is it personality reversal? Ok, no, they are pretty much themselves... or not...

I don't know anymore. But it looks like fun read.

Did Hussie read this? Is that why we are having this Intermission?

Edit: Just to be safe, the material in the link contains Karkat <> Dave and later Dave <3 Equius. I know that many probably won't mind, but if they squick you, don't say that I didn't warn... unless you read it before I did this edit, then I need to say sorry.

Sadly, you have to buy it to read it full.

The preview is here: http://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=manga&illust_id=25627385

700 Yen for this chapter of 60 pages. 500 Yen for each of the previous chapters, minus the pilot that is not available. I wonder how expensive it'll become on Internet auctions?

王者の祭典 is the keyword to use on pixiv if you want to search for the series. This artist's works are awesome. His artist ID on pixiv is 411252 if you want to see all his works.

This BD is gorgeous. Today I saw someone reading this in the bus station's waiting room and from what I could read of it, the art is gorgeous. The story I'm not sure, but I think it's in French. Gotta track this comic down.

I love this story so much.

Read it here: http://mspfanventures.com/?s=132&p=780

It's only 780 pages, so read it. It's a must read if you love dream logic.

This is a Post-End story, as the title suggests, a trace of existence in a blank void. The medium is photo collage and fragments of texts between pictures.

Warning: Contain violence and substance abuse.

The "sequel" to Lockpick Pornography. It made me cry. The characters are very believable and the fall... not pretty. I hope Comeau could write a book where the homosexuals can live a better life, a book that isn't a political weapon that cries sex and violence to get our attention, but one where the characters can emerge victorious and be good persons. Surely not all homosexuals lose in life?

Oh, and read this excerpt:
"You two work really well together. He makes you happy, Clay. Why not put a ring on his finger? You'd look so handsome in your tuxedos." I picture sliding a ring onto Clay's finger, and his smile, and I hate to admit that I get a bit goofy in the heart. This is why people get married, I think. They don't think about these things practically, they just imagine the wedding cake. The way their boyfriend would look in a tuxedo. The imagine sitting old and crotchety together on the front step, canes leaning against the wall, a chessboard between you. Two men growing old together. And their heart feels like this, and of course it seems like a good idea.

Am I the only person thinking of Magneto and Professor X?

Reading it right now. It's so offensive that it's hilarious. And knowing the author, it's meant to be like that. I've read comments that says the book's still immature, like a draft that can be fleshed out with a good editor, but I think for this kind of story, the writing style is fitting. Look, the title is "Lockpick Pornography". How often do you see impossibly well-written pornography? Pornography is about raw, fragmented, almost-tasteless pieces of flesh in images. Lockpick Pornography is that. Raw, fragmented, offensive, almost-tasteless pieces of anger in images. But it's so strong and raw that it gets reaction from the reader. And makes the reader think.

Half-way in chapter one I'm already hating the characters and loving the book.

Edit: No, the characters are pretty well-made, I'm hating them because they are huge jerks and it was the author's intention anyway.

When will Storm in Heaven finish scanlating it? Will it become licensed and come out here? It's delicious! It has this faint aroma like Japanese sweets. Soft wind, hint of sweet and a single drop of sadness. And the content is so tame that I can probably buy it (Hey, my Sandman collection has far more not-children-friendly content.) and my parents won't worry about anything (beside the cost).

T.Siddell is part of Archaia Comics. Not only that, on Archaia's catalogue, the reader's comment for his Gunnerkrigg Court: Orientation is written by Neil Gaiman. Shouldn't be that surprising, but it surprised me anyway. Overkill, man.

Re-read lark's Morning Rush on her LJ. Troll!Green is so awesome <3

Quote: "Sorry, man. Sprained my...kidneys," Green replied with a theatric wince. "Both of them. You'll just have to fight my second instead. Go easy on him, all right? It's his first day."

Best line I've ever read in a fanfic. (P.S.: The "second" in question is Red. You know what this means to the poor challenger.)

...is about Fire Emblem this time! I always thought there was a cord attached to the javelin so you could just yank it back?

What the heck was that? I think I'll continue avoiding Glee.

Also, when will we be able to read pettyartist's HGSS Nuzlocke run? I'm really looking forwards to Gary with a prosthetic arm, new rival Silver (which could lead to paradox) and Locke/Red paradox. And pole-dancing stripper Giovanni. Silver, stop your dad before he gets arrested! Wait, HGSS is where Silver strips the protagonist naked right? Er... Don't rush at getting arrested, you worst father-and-son criminal team in Pokemon history D:

Edit: Someone pointed out that her Silver doesn't look like a girl. It's true. I think I can count the number of artist who don't draw Silver like a girl (and that I saw) on a single hand. One, two, three... She's the third. That's including the official art. In fact, the earlier design of Silver at Game Freak was girly too. It was only from HGSS that Silver stopped looking like a girl, but it's kind of late as the girl!Silver was already in our shared memory. Wow.

Edit 2: Nevermind, I stared more at her Silver and noticed that he doesn't look like a guy either. This guy fails at looking like a guy D8 I blame the GSC time.

Some of them were on steroids or something. I'm tempted to do my own nuzlocke run. Gotta practice drawing muscles first.

Finally read that comic yesterday. It was awesome concentrated.

Kind of funny how the clinically insane "Ratman" is the sanest Aperture employee we have seen so far. Even his schizophrenic delusions are so sane in comparison to things like Henry letting GLaDOS have "a little" (read: enough to kill a whole facility of people, so definitely not just a little) neurotoxin "as long as it's for science". Chell's "never gives up. ever" sounds like a prefrontal cortex anomaly (there's a difference between "never give up" because of willpower and determination and "never give up" just because... plus only the pathological kind of never give up would get someone rejected for test subject position at Aperture). Let's not even mention Johnson's mercury-injected shower curtains.

Quelqu'un me dire si ça existe pour de vrai? It's supposely a novel by a certain "Crème de Glacée". The cover I saw was probably a fake cover...

Edit: Ok, it was a fake cover. The real deal looks rather cheap and silly. The story doesn't sound so good either...
pseudogeek: The face of a peach-faced lovebird. (Default)
I want to read it, but it's out of print? It's a story by Ronald A. Knox. It's classified as detective fiction in the west, but in the east's "anti-detective fiction" because the deductions done by amateur sleuths inside the story are erroneous and misguiding. Interesting.
