So... um... John really does have the Chronic Hero Syndrome; it was not an act or an effort. Considering how the god tier conditional mortality works, that doesn't look too good for him.
And I start to ship Karkat <> Dave really hard. My brain is practically full of Karkat <> Dave AUs now. But I can't even write them out because of that stupid New Year Resolution thing.
I'll just go watch more photos of plump pigeons or something. Cute green pigeons. Bird porn can sooth my berserk brain.

Date: 2012-03-25 03:54 pm (UTC)The New Year Resolution was:
2. Write only original in 2012. No Fanfiction.
(Extra challenge: Do not tell anyone until conditions are met.)
[Clarification of the resolution item: Applies only to writing. Fan arts and comics are under this item, thus can be produced.]
The reason was that fanfiction was invading my writing development. You see, when doing a fanfiction, you already have a world built for you and all you have to do is leave hints as to which canon or fanon it is set in. But in an original, one must make sure that the world is clear. And by world I mean both the inorganic such as geography and the organic such as the fauna and the characters, and the emergence such as politics and traditions.
Not only it cripples my ability to worldbuild instead of acting as a crutch, it also contaminates many of my worlds. It's strange because this contamination didn't happen until last year or before last year, so I wonder if it's because my artificial worlds are young and malleable again or because that I was tempting fate by declaring "why doesn't the contamination phenomenon happen to me?" Ah, hubris.
So... no fanfiction until the end of the year, which should be enough for my artificial universes to stabilise (and my skills to develop, but that one will take more than an year). Once they reach maturity, I should be able to resume my fan projects.
So now I'm stuck with a bucketful of lust that cannot go anywhere.

Date: 2012-03-25 09:02 pm (UTC)I've been having trouble with worldbuilding with my current story too. But that's less because fanfic (I tend to try and worldbuild a lot with fic, and my abilities have actually grown from it) and more because it's a modern world with magic that will have influenced everything from recent history to the political order and I have no idea how to tackle it correctly orz
Also now I wonder what fic you wrote before, I should go stalk back. Do you have a tag?

Date: 2012-03-25 10:51 pm (UTC)My fics are a mess. You can use the 'fic' tag (http://pseudogeek.dreamwidth.org/tag/fic), but they only show a fraction of my fics and most of them unfinished or finished, but unbeta'd. The total number of my fics isn't that much bigger neither. I rarely write fics just for fun: most of them are for exchanges or memes. They aren't very good either most of the times.
My originals are of course under the 'original' tag. They are a mess too.
Where are your fics? I can't find them on your dreamwidth. Do you use an archive for them?

Date: 2012-03-25 11:06 pm (UTC)Some of the lj ones are friend-locked for content, but I can add you if you're interested--the locked ones are for the Tales fandom, idk if you play those.
My recent ones are basically a bunch of Mother 3 fics and a few bad pokemon ones. My memes also have a ton of minific.
Eh, mine tend to be shamelessly shippy (except the Mother ones, and even then some have hints), so tread with caution, etc.
/goes off to read

Date: 2012-03-25 11:51 pm (UTC)I cannot read the Mother 3 ones because I haven't finished it, so spoilers.
...so that leaves the Pokemon ones eh? I can stand shippy, as long as they are not nothing but ships......
......
Oh my Arceus you ship (used to ship? still ship? always ship?) Gold and Silver. This is like my first ship. Technically my ship of them was Protagonist* x Silver, but that includes Gold and Silver and it's like, right in the heart.
*'Protagonist' here means 'whoever who stopped/helped stopping the revival of Team Rocket/fights the Neo-Team Rocket
I'm writing this reply as I'm reading your fics, and your Custom Ball is making me want to build the S.S. RED IS SILVER'S ADOPTIVE BROTHER.
And you do realise that having Gold's Mum practically adopts Silver makes them like some kind of Gilgamesh/Enkidu analog right?
The vampire AU I ran it throu at the speed of a jogging cheetah because my mind was in the gutter the entire time. Dammit. Can't read straight like that.

Date: 2012-03-26 12:04 am (UTC)Yes I still ship them. I just love their dynamics, and with pokespe giving me an OTP of every kind (a m/m, a f/m, a trio, a harem) except f/f I don't even feel remotely guilty. I just really like how the bond of trust forms and holds and how damn casual they eventually get with each other.
And Gold's rabid protective side lol.
... I don't because I'm not savvy with that mythology PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME.

Date: 2012-03-26 12:24 am (UTC)The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the oldest slash fiction in humanity's history.
Long story short:
A part-god, part-human, all mortal king named Gilgamesh was this huge douchebag who made everybody's life hard. So the gods decided to make someone who's his equal to distract him and generally give him something to do. So the gods made Enkidu out of soil and mud. Blablahblah. Enkidu and Gilgamesh met. They fought and fell in love from the awesome fighting. Blablablah. Gilgamesh decided that they have fun together by killing sacred beings, which isn't a good idea. Blahblablah. Gilgamesh's mom gathered them before they go to bless them and practically adopts Enkidu.
Oh, did I mention that before Enkidu's arrival, Gilgamesh had a prophetic dream and his mom told him that the axe in his dream represents the arrival of the person Gilgamesh will love the most in his life. Seriously, that mom's a yaoi fan goddess there.
Apparently not all versions of the tale were that slashy, so some of the scribes must have been slash fans.

Date: 2012-03-26 12:35 am (UTC)... I love mythology. I always thought people who study ancient civilisations and culture are in it for the sex and drugs, because sometimes it looks like that's most of what mythology's made of.
And gods yes now I see the parallels.
