"Red! I didn't know that you come to to the fighting dojo!"

Ethan is not the only one surprised by Red's visit. It is already rare enough to see Silver here, but Red? Granted, Silver was dragged here by Ethan, but no one, not even Green or Blue, can make Red go anywhere.

"He's coming down for more training here thanks to some talented trainers give him three defeats in a row. Poor thing almost cried on the phone." Green explains.
"I did not cry." Red grumbles.
"That's why I said almost. But look! Ethan is here. Don't you want a rematch?"

Red's dark grey eyes meet with Ethan's dark blue eyes. A fraction of second later, Red breaks contact and scans the room.

"The girl is not here. The other girl who defeated me."
"You mean Lyra?" Silver speaks before Ethan could. "She can't come today, she's grounded for unintentional vandalism."

Red's gaze falls on Silver. The iris as well as pupil flash red for an instant.

"You look strong too. I want a tag battle with the two of you."
"Then I'll go team up with the redhead there." Green says.

An iron grip catches his arm before he could make a step.

"Ow! What's the matter with you? You could've just said so if you wanted me to team with you!"

Red's pupil and iris are glowing bright red.

"Well..." Green moans. "Looks we are going to play the hard way. Let's take this outside so the dojo won't collapse. I don't want to die from falling roof here. Hope it's fine with you two?"

Ethan and Silver are not sure they are allowed to say no. They simply follow the seniors outside. It is a sunny day today.

"Red, is it?" Silver says to Red as they ready their pokemons. "Will your eyes be alright? Ethan and Lyra told me that you used to be on the top of Mt.Silver all the time without eye protection. From what I saw earlier when you looked at me, they do not seem to be reacting to light, do they? I know that you can still see with other means, but you should get them checked in case of snow blindness."
"Goodness," Green exclaims, "Red, you have gained another motherhen!" Green snickers. "Alright, red haired guy, you don't have to worry. Red is the strongest. Even if he dies, he'll still find ways to exist and battle. I hate to say that, but he is the beginning and the end of all pokemon trainers, Champion Red, the pokemon battler!"
".......................... ...................!"

The match begins. Red sends out Snorlax. Green sends out Exeggutor.

"Choose your pokemons carefully!" Green taunts.

Ethan buries his pokeball into the ground. After a clicking sound, something gigantic swims underground. Silver tries to throw a pokeball, but Ethan stops him.

"That one's no good." Ethan explains. "It's too fast. Both enemies are low-speed high-hp tanks, so there is a big chance that Green is going to use Trick Room. Even if he doesn't, it's going to take some effort to remove their defense."
Silver nods. "Alright, go Crobat!"
"That one's speed's even higher!"
Silver shrugs. "At least its stats are more balanced."

"Exeggutor, tri-"
"Crobat! Confuse ray!"

The psychic tree pokemon becomes confused and hits snorlax with its leaves instead.

"Hey, you are pretty good!" Green says with a smile. He says almost everything with a smile.
"On snorlax! Dig!"
"Earthquake."

The steelix manages to surfaces before the earthquake is at full effect. The impact was enough to send snorlax rolling. Red and Green, used to incoming attacks or even pokemons falling their way, dodge all the snorlax and the falling debris.

"Snorlax, rollout."

Taking advantage of the force from steelix's attack, snorlax rolls backwards, effectively dodge further attacks by pulling distance, then rolls in a demi-circle before coming full contact with the steelix, sending the latter flying onto the dojo's roof. The building gives the inorganic equivalent of a sigh and holds its place. Barely. It's now cracked all over the roof.

Everyone inside the dojo quickly flees the place.

"Leaf storm!"

The exeggutor, snapped out of confusion from the noise, quickly aims for the steelix and attacks.

"Crobat! Air cutter!"

The bat pokemon rapidely cuts away all leaves heading the steelix's way and hits the plant pokemon full on. It is very effective. Three of the heads are hit in the eyes and flinch from the impact. The snorlax is hit as well, but it was not at the centre of the attack, being hit only from the peripheral cutting winds, so it is merely slowed a bit.

"Sorry to inform you, but the exeggutor has many heads, so hitting only some of its heads is not going to make the whole tree flinch..." Green babbles on.
"Now! Bite!"

The bat swirls around the exeggutor and bites on the head that was not hit by the air cutter. Exeggutor, being part psychic, takes major damage and flinches. Crobat quickly dodges away after the attack by taking altitude. When the executor opens its many eyes again, all it sees is the darkness of steelix's jaws around it before being finished off by its crunch.

It's one pokemon down for Green.

"Giga impact."

Suddenly, the snorlax comes full contact with steelix and, despite type disadvantage, knocks it out.

One pokemon down for Ethan. The teams are in equal advantage again.

"Had to thank steelix for being still while crunching my exeggutor! Arcanine, your turn!"
"Go! Dragonair!"
"Did this dragonair used to be a dratini from the dragon's den elder?" Silver inquires.
"Yes. Did you get one too?"
"Nah. At first I was not caring enough so he did not give me anything. Then when I was caring and strong enough, but my team's already full so I refused. He's keeping a dratini with reddish skin for me though. I play and train with when I go to dragon's den and it's going to evolve soon. Lyra got a dratini too, didn't she? Do they give dratinis to everyone? Dragonair, aquatail!"
"Only if the person looks compatible with one, or so I heard. Fly!"

Both pokemons land their attack on Arcanine.

"What the heck!" Green screams, but without forgetting to signal his arcanine to use agility. "The snorlax's recharging from the giga impact just now, why didn't you hit it instead?"
"...it's because you're an idiot." Red says.
"How's that..."

Snorlax recovers health from leftover. It didn't have time to eat before as it was rolling, but now it has ample time to eat and relax.

"Look! It's even taking its time relaxing! Do you guys hold a grudge against me or what?" Green says as he gestures for fire blast.
"If you don't take this seriously, I'll take out all your pokemons myself." Red says. His glare now on Green, fierce and commanding.
"Fine." Green says. His brown eyes now glows leaf green.
"...Fire Red and leaf Green?" Silver murmurs to himself.
"They are getting serious. Get ready, Silver." Ethan says, his eyes slowing changing colour as well.

Green no longer gives out verbal commands. Instead, he seems to be psychically linked to his pokemon, his gestures simultaneous to his pokemons instead of before them. The arcanine dodges and attacks at extremespeed. Soon Silver's Crobat is caught and promptly knocked out with a Thunder Fang. Ethan's dragonair is still standing, but it is now covered in scratches and burns.

The seniors' team is at advantage.

"Blizzard." Red commands.

Dragonair is down as well.

Under their breath, Ethan and Silver try to decide which pokemons to send out next. Psychics will be bad idea as Green's Arcanine has crunch and likely to attack first. Steel or grass type will be asking to get burnt. Water type will get thunder fanged fast. Flying type will not get any advantage...

"The hell with it! Weavile! Agility!"

Gradually, Silver's red-brown eyes glow silver bright.

Weavile has higher base speed than arcanine. With agility, it can almost match arcanine's running speed. Arcanine, despite capable of great acceleration and possessing high endurance, has to slow down for attacks other than quick attack and extremespeed. Against an ice type like weavile, with high evasion and relatively low defense, arcanine naturally gives up on low accuracy fire blast, close up the distance between them and attempt to use fire fang.

"Sucker punch!" Silver commands.

The attack punches arcanine's jaws closed, making it swallow its own fire.

"Typhlosion!"

Ethan's fire pokemon jumps out from its pokemon and charges at arcanine. Snorlax uses rollout to intercept. Typhlosion catches snorlax at full speed. Instead of flinching, it uses the fat pokemon's momentum to throw it aside. When snorlax rolls back, typhlosion punches it with force hard enough to shatter bricks, stopping the rolling at once.

Ethan's eyes are bright gold now.

With a flamethrower almost indistinguishable from fire blast in strength, typhlosion knocks out snorlax.

"Venusaur."

What is he thinking? Silver wonders. There are a fire and an ice pokemons on field.

"Earthquake."

The ground once again shatters from violent stomps. Weavile manages to dodge most harm by jumping on top of pieces of rocks. Typhlosion has no such agility.

"Eruption!"

Before the ground could close up on the fire-type pokemon, typhlosion swallows a berry and ignites its fur. In an instant, an explosion of fire and rock pushes away everything on the battlefield towards Red and Green's pokemons. Weavile, having heard Ethan's command, stands safely on top of typhlosion's head, out of harm's way.

"Thanks for the power up, kiddo!" Green grins.

From absorbing the fire it swallowed and typhlosion's eruption, arcanine's flash fire ability made the dog pokemon's fire power up by a few levels.

"Is Red's venusaur ready for the combine attack?"
"Nu-saur."

Where the venusaur used to be now stands a cocoon of fire and charcoal. It then cracks and opens outwards like a flower, with venusaur relatively unharmed in the centre.

"Not yet?" Green repeats after the pokemon.
"Arg!" Silver groans. "It used frenzy plant to shield itself againt typhlosion's attack!"
"Red, Venusaur," Green says, "I'm going to buy you some time to recharge, better get ready!"
"Saur!"

Venusaur picks up a piece of charcoal and tosses it to Green's arcanine. The canine pokemon barks in joy.

"Wow. How come Red never gives me anything? I wish the trainer is more like his pokemons."
"...you jealous?"
"Woah! Did you almost have a facial expression other than poker face and death glare there?"
"......... ..........."
"Yes, yes. At your command, dictator Red."

Silver and Ethan exchange glance.

"Weavile, come back! Go, Feraligatr!"

The crocodile pokemon lets out a happy roar.

"It's doing really well!" Ethan exclaims. He knew Silver's pokemons are very fond of their trainer, but feraligatr here looks like if it couldn't be happier. It might even be happier than crobat!
"Lyra gave me boxes after boxes of mineral water, soda pop and lava cookies and forced me to share them with my pokemons during my dragon's den training. Feraligatr, being the biggest eater, ate most of them. Combining with letting them out for walks, they made my pokemons really happy, but also putting some weight. Heck, I'm gaining weight from the cookies too. If this keeps going we'll be too fat to fight."
"Heh? Silver getting fat? Let me check!"
"Wait, where are you touching? Why are you lifting my shirt up? Ah! Stop!"
"Hey, you didn't listen when you stripped Lyra and me back in Goldenrod."
"Flaming feather of Moltres!" Green sighs. "Younger trainers sure are close between rivals."
".........."
"Arcanine! Flare blitz!"

It's the arcanine's turn to set its own fur on fire. It charges towards typhlosion and feraligatr's general direction.

"Feligatr! Aqua tail!"
"Typhlosion! Defense curl!"

Arcanine steps back just in time to avoid the attack and, redirecting its fire in front of its mouth, let out a flamethrower with several fire blasts at its core.

"Hydro pump!"
"Gyro ball!"

The water doses the flamethrower, but the fire blasts goes right through and hits feraligatr in the mouth, making it cough in pain. On the other hand, arcanine seems to be tired out from the attack, its gaze no longer full of fire as it was before the attack and its fur is diminishing in volume.

"Looks like the overheat is starting to cancel out the bonus from flash fire." Silver remarks.

In a not very impressionable speed, typhlosion's gyro ball is rolling towards arcanine. The latter, instead of moving out of the way, slows down to reduce damage. Suddenly, typhlosion gains speed and instead of hitting arcanine in ball form it jumps up and sends the dog pokemon flying in a swift but precise aerial strike.

"Aerial ace?" Screams Green in surprise. "Forget flying, typhlosion can't even learn bounce!"
"If you paid attention, you'll notice that his typhlosion doesn't even have gyro ball." Says Red.
"I can't tell what skills someone else's pokemon has just by looking!"
"That's why you couldn't stay Champion."

In a frenzy rage, thick vines come out from the entire battlefield and binds Ethan and Silver's pokemons. Typhlosion tries to burn the vines away with flame wheel, but they prove to be difficult to burn.

"Feraligatr! Ice Fang!"

But it only makes the vines harder. It does, however, slow down their growth.

"Red, are you sure that this typhlosion boy is the one of those who defeated you on Mt. Silver? He looks pretty weak to me. The red haired boy is more to my liking."

Arcanine is charging thunder. Venusaur cuts his vines away from the frenzied plants to avoid electrocution.

"Feraligatr, show them our bond!"

With herculean strength, feraligatr tears away the binding plants and throws the largest vine towards arcanine. Just as thunder was unleashed. The crocodile and the dog stood still for a second, then both fell to the ground. The trainers called them back.

Before they could release their next pokemon, The typhlosion releases a blast of fire similar to the one arcanine released on feraligatr. All plants that crossed its path turned to ash and charcoal. This time, venuaur does not have time to protect itself. It took the attack face first. Before it could understand, a pokeball was above it and from it comes out a descending gust of icy wind, followed by an icy claw that buried itself deep into venusaur's flower. The ice then spread out and covered the platn pokemon in frost.

All trainers are now down to one pokemon.

"Pikachu!"
"Eevee!"

The three medium sized pokemons danced in a blur of sparks, shadows and fur. Typhlosion swings a claw or spins fire at a warm coloured blur now and then, but it is exhausted and cannot keep up. The weavile tries despairingly to fend them off, to make them go away from the wounded fire pokemon.

"Quite pathetic." Green sneers.

Then Ethan's typhlosion catches eevee square in the back with a brick break. Green blinks in disbelief. Red's Pikachu, distracted by its friend and mate's scream of pain, receives a hit directly on the face from Silver's weavile. It tries to thunderbolt out of reflex, but weavile stops it again with a sucker punch.

"Eevee, finish it! Trump card!"
"Pikachu, volt tackle!"
"Weavile! Stop them! Fast!"
"Typhlosion. Swift!"

And the battled ended in a fury of flashes. The seniors are victorious.

"That's just pathetic!" Green yells to Ethan. "Disappointing! All you did was struggling, and even that wasn't done properly because your pokemons had too many moves." He then gestures Silver while still addressing to Ethan. "If this guy wasn't covering your ass during the whole battle, you would've lost way worse than that. You have trainer's mind reader to a certain degree, but your strategies were a total mess. Red there nearly beat your typhlosion with plant attacks, of all things. I don't mind people losing to me, but that was just disastrous."
"Ahem." Silver clears his throat. "Beside typhlosion, which was level 63, all of Ethan's pokemons on his current team are only about level 40 or so. It's already good enough, to last this long against your two's teams who are all level 72 or above."
"That's still-"
"And you have to admit that he shut you up twice when you were gloating."
Green thinks that up for a second. "Point taken." He admits. "But I'm hoping he'll do better next time. I got to go now. Smell ya!"

And Green hurries to Red's side. The latter was panicking in front of a map. Green helps read first, then drags Red to the direction of nearest hospital.

"Looks like you were right about his eyes." Ethan moans.
"Don't change subject. You really did suck." The red hair groans.
"Sorry."
"And you were wondering why you could never beat Lyra."
"Fine... let's train together this Thursday night?"
"Yeah. But now let's go heal our pokemons."

"Hey."
"Huh?"
"After Pokemon Centre... can we go get a cup of hot chocolate?"
"Sure."

Author's comments (on the fic):
Well, it is kind of tedious, isn't it? I guess that's why most fanfic writers just leave out the battle part or cut it short. And I didn't really get their personality right.

Author's rants (on pokemon data):
The pokemon stats, skills and descriptions are freaking contradictory. Dragonite and Garchomp are said to be some super speed pokemon, yet they cannot learn extremespeed naturally. In order to have an extremespeed dratini/dragonair/dragonite one has to either get the one from the dragon's den elder in Crystal or chain breed it. Somehow, arcanine, a pokemon said to be very fast and has extremespeed, has very low base speed. Crobat and weavile has way higher base speed than dragonite, garchomp and arcanine, yet cannot learn extremespeed. Yes, three pokemons known for their high speed are, in game, slower than a bat. Dratini's signature move is supposed to dragonbreath according to its description, yet it can no longer learn the move by level up or by TM, having to learn it from breeding or dream world. Garchomp is supposed to be able to fly, yet it cannot learn fly in the games, but Tropius, a freaking banana tree-dinosaur thing, can learn fly -.-a The list goes on and on. Game and story segregation much?
