Is it just me or...

In fiction, there is an over-representation of death compared to birth. Most works contain at least one death, real or symbolic. Birth? Not so often. There are many instances of symbolic rebirth, but not of actual birth.

In the world of fiction, birth is symbolic and death is real.

Nope, it's not just you. Now that I think about it, death is far more common in the things I watch/read/play. Death is common, almost expected in the fiction I encounter (which may say something about my tastes...), but actual births tend to be rare. And they are always made out to be some grand event.

On-screen births tend to be even rarer, at least in non-medical or soap-opera shows. The only two examples that came to mind were a chapter in the Fullmetal Alchemist anime/manga, and some of the Harvest Moon games (ok, the actual birth is off-screen, but I think it still applies). Other than that...I'm coming up with nothing.
