Wait, what? So it was a real story?
I just learned today that the story of the guy who shot down 9 out 10 suns was actually a real story turned into a myth. The suns represented the lines (read: male who can still reproduce) of the Summer (that's the name of the family, not the fairy Court... but yes it is similar to the Summer Court) court in an attempt to usurp their power. Only one was left alive (the sun that was left alive for the people). I'm not sure how reliable that information is, but since many Chinese myths are real stories of their kings turned into metaphor to pass them down after the death of the kings, it's plausible.
